Magma dynamics: Generation, transport and eruption

Magmas are generated in the Earth’s mantle, transported from the interior of the planet to the surface of the Earth, and culminate in eruptions. A basic but insufficient understanding, surprisingly we do not know... why or at what rate magmas are generated?, or how magmas became mobile, a key element to understand the reawakening of long dormant volcanoes. What controls the stagnation or migration towards the surface before eruptions, or ultimately what control the fragmentation of magmas dictating its effusion or explosive behavior? Our research aims to contribute to answer these and many similar questions.
