Profile

Lucía Castellano Rotger holds a degree in History from the University of La Laguna (Spain) and subsequently earned a Master's degree in Teacher Training for Compulsory Secondary Education, Upper Secondary Education, Vocational Training, Language Teaching and Sports Education from the European University of the Canary Islands.

Her aspiration to combine the Humanities with the Sciences was fulfilled when she was awarded a contract under the INVESTIGO Programme at the Laboratory of Micromorphology and Lipid Biomarkers (AMBILab, University of La Laguna). During her time there, she trained in organic chemistry protocols applicable to a wide range of geological and archaeological samples (sediments, plants, coprolites, ceramics, etc.). She also began collaborating with postdoctoral researchers, doctoral candidates and undergraduate students. Following the end of her contract, she continued working in the laboratory as a laboratory technician until mid-2026.

This professional experience has enabled her to join the working teams of multiple projects at the regional (TED2021-129695A-I00) and national (PID2024-155491NB-I00, PID2024-162690NA-I00) levels. She is also a member of the research team of project MADS25.L1.02 of the Institutional Chair of Environment and Sustainable Development.

In September 2026, she secured a place as a PhD PIF student in Dr. Natalia Égüez's BIOMARQ laboratory, joining the IPNA-CSIC to continue her training in the biomolecular field and to develop her doctoral thesis within the framework of the NOMADBONES project (PID2024-162690NA-I00). Her thesis will focus on understanding, through lipid and proteomic analyses, pastoral ways of life in Mongolia during the Bronze Age.
