Profile

Javier Morente López is a postdoctoral researcher whose main research interest is focused on the study of the adaptive processes of plants in response to ecological variability caused by climate change, from the framework of evolutionary ecology and evolutionary genetics. During his thesis he developed a solid methodological and theoretical background in evolutionary biology that has allowed him to study the processes that drive evolutionary changes in species subjected to strong selective pressures, using multidisciplinary approaches. During his research career he has brought together techniques such as environmental niche modeling, landscape and population genetics, quantitative genetics, and both in situ and ex situ local adaptation experiments. Currently his research focuses on the study of the invasion capacity of plant species in natural communities of the Canary Islands from an evolutionary perspective.

Research Interests

Evolutionary ecology, evolutionary biology, botany, adaptation, climate change, islands, high mountains, plants, invasive species, phenotypic traits, genetic diversity, population genetics, landscape genetics, niche models.
