"Vitamin K3 to save the oranges"

CSIC has a new patent on the use of a vitamin K3 derivative (or menadione) to protect trees from Huanglongbing disease -citrus greening, a bacterium that deteriorates fruit quality and plant condition and is native to China. The patent developed in 2010 by Dr. Andrés Borges, researcher of the group of Chemical Activators of the natural defenses of the plant of the Institute of Natural Products and Agrobiology, has been presented in the framework of the second edition of Patents Week, in the Elder Museum of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
